This is the Sunshine State Rhodesian Ridgeback Club's second quarter newsletter.

We have had a lot going on!

First, we welcome new members, Faye Walshaw-Vaughan and Linda Fishkind.  Welcome to the club!

Next, we held 2 AKC events this quarter - the Coursing mentored event and the A match.  The mentored event came after a year of work that some members have put forth to get SSRRC licensed to hold AKC coursing events.  This has been accomplished.  We got the news on May 6, 2013 that we were ready to go and could start holding AKC lure coursing events.

Ch TuckerRidge Bold and Spicy at Regal finished her championship with a 4 point major at the Elkton, FL shows.  Way to go Pepper!

CH. JafariRidge Ghost and the Darkness of Spring Valley - Tsavo - finished at 11 months old at the Zolfo Springs show.  Owned and loved by Manny and Linda Guanaurd.

On a sloggy field during a steady rain, Bindi became a dual champion at the AKC mentored event in High Springs, FL.  Not only is she a Conformation Grand Champion, she is now a Field champion.  She is now GCH DC Regal Tolerton's Luminara Unduli for Bindura, SC, Fch.

At the Brooksville show in May, on Saturday, CH Rolling's Mozart by Spring Valley at Ridgehill, SC, CGC   "Mozart" got his last 2 points to finally qualify for his Grand Championship.  This is especially meaningful since his mother (Carol Smith) thought he got it in Elkton because she miscounted!!

On a rainy day up in High Springs, SSRRC began its 2 day AKC Coursing mentored event.  We had 45 entries on Saturday and 40 on Sunday and great food both days.  In the end, SSRRC became licensed to hold AKC Lure Coursing events.  It took a lot of hard work and dedication by the members and the non-members that did the work and showed up to the events.

Shona, Kimani's Putting On Aires, in her first All-Breed Show Sunday, May 5th, held by the Trenton Kennel Club and Supported by the Greater Valley Forge Rhodesian Ridgeback Club went Best In Sweepstakes under Breeder Judge Ms. Tammy Lynch and Winners Bitch/Best of Winners under Judge Ms. Joan Goldstein for a 5 point major.

Shona went on to take Winners Bitch/Best of Winners the next day at the Trenton Kennel Club under Judge Mr. Hal Biermann for another 2 points.

Shona is owned, loved, and handled by Elaine Demopoulos, and co-owned by Alicia Hanna, Alice Walls, and Roberta Porter, DVM.

At the SSRRC AKC Trial May 4 & 5 2013 at SpringRidge Field in High Springs.
MBIF FC Terra Christa’s Riffe Octavian SC Fch – Won Best of Breed both Days! He did his Dad Ross Johnson proud!

Zora had a BIG day at the Perry shows in May.  Zora - Ariel's Red Dawn Rising Over Spring Ridge - was Winner's Bitch and Best of Winners for her first MAJOR and she also won Best Puppy, a Puppy Group 2 AND she was Best in Sweepstakes!

A shout out to Raven - Ch. Regal Tolerton's Can't Keep A Secret at Radiant Ridge - went Best of Breed on May 19, 2013 at the RRCUS supported show in Brooksville.  Raven is owned and loved by Cassandra Carpenter.

BIG Congratulations to Jane HLis and her boy, Ch. Spring Valley's JoJo. At the recent Tampa Bay show, JoJo got Best of Breed and a Group One!  Way to go!!

May 18, 2013 marked the day SSRRC held their RRCUS supported in conjunction with the Inverness Florida Kennel Club at the Hernando County Fairgrounds.

Following the show, SSRRC held an educational seminar featuring guest speaker, Dr. Shauntelle Gallaher.  Dr. Gallaher spoke on the care of newborn puppies followed by a question and answer session.   Dr. Gallaher practices at the Bay Road Animal Hospital and specializes in canine reproduction and pediatrics.  We were delighted to have her speak.

Following Best in Show, SSRRC held their A match.  Thank you Arvind DeBraganca for being our judge.  We had an entry of 10 and in the end, the puppies went home as the winners.

Best news of all.  Our A Match was accepted by the AKC and now we are on track to hold the 2nd one at the Greater Daytona Dog Fanciers Club in January.  Stay tuned.

The Best in Match winner was Ariel's She's a Knockout

Best of Opposite to Best in Match was Kengali's Ronin Atticus
